I am petitioning to have pets allowed on Sydney Trains. Currently, only assistance dogs are allowed to travel by train in Sydney. This means that pet owners who don't have a car are unable to enjoy activities outside of their neighborhood with their pets, like visiting family, friends or a different dog park. 

According to the RSPCA, more than 62% of Australian households own a pet. Of these, 38% are dog owners and 29% are cat owners. In addition to this, 59% of people who do not currently own a pet admit that they would like to own one in the near future.

A research made by ABC showed that "enjoying and caring for a dog in Australian cities — which has proven health and social benefits — is a relatively car-dependent affair. And car dependency is something urban planners want us to leave behind for many reasons, including sustainability, health and liveability". If public transport is for travel for all citizens and dogs are an important part of so many people's lives, why should dogs be excluded from public transport?
