Since the Kandos Cement works closed in 2012 which remained open for 100 years, the town was left in a state of despair. It's located approximately 3 1/2 hours drive from Sydney and for those who don't drive it's a train to Lithgow and then a bus to Kandos. In 2013 the Arts festival Cementa was born which brings a wealth of talent to the small county town, a 4 day event every 2 years. If there was a passenger train from Central to Kandos it would bring a lifeline to the town and a constant burgeoning array of visitors.
