Remove Principal Treece and Critical Race Theory from Babcock Ranch Neighborhood School

Remove Principal Treece and Critical Race Theory from Babcock Ranch Neighborhood School
The Issue
The citizens of Babcock Ranch in Punta Gorda, Florida, call for the immediate resignation of Principal Shannon Treece. Treece has violated a state order that prohibits schools from teaching Critical Race Theory. The Florida Board of Education stated in its ruling that teachers must "serve as facilitators for student discussion and do not share their personal views or attempt to indoctrinate or persuade students to a particular point of view." Ms. Treece has violated this rule in her insistence on hiding the curricula from parents while infusing the curricula with racially-centric and politically motivated ideologies. Furthermore, she has championed CRT in her social media posts. Her refusal to separate politics from her position as principal makes her a danger and a liability to our kids’ education.
In its essence, a charter school is meant to be a collaborative space that serves the community and its families, allowing parents to have a voice in how the school operates, reasonable influence and access. The school board and administration have willfully alienated the families of BNS. We call for a free and fair bi-annual election of the school board and insist that two members of the board are current parents - one from elementary and one from secondary. This is necessary for fair representation of the current enrolled student body.
We call for immediate and complete transparency of the curriculum, including but not limited to: lesson plans, syllabi, measurable and assessable goals and objectives, teacher credentials, teacher retention rates, student retention rates, assessment and assignment rubrics, hiring standards and credentials, and causes of past and future teacher termination.
We demand a full and independent audit of the current charter and the implementation of all charter missions and values. We demand that we may see the alignment of said missions and values in any and all curricula. We request that there is a curriculum coordinator hired to oversee and implement Florida Sunshine Standards and hold accountable the teachers and the administration. We will no longer tolerate or support the unstructured curricula that serve as a vehicle for delivering an immoral, illegal and unethical political agendum.
