SWLA for Co-Op fiber network

SWLA for Co-Op fiber network
The Issue
On August 26, 2020 Hurricane Laura came ashore to SWLA..
While many utility crews (Electricity, AT&T, and Cell phone providers) were already called in to respond to the enormity of this disaster, Suddenlink failed to provide a surge team in order to maintain services. Suddenlink also failed to provide any communication with the local government, as well as with the local area. Suddenlink has not provided any plan of action, inspection of damages, estimate of repairs, or shown any due diligence for the responsibility of a necessary service.
The internet and television service is a necessity in order to receive local information as our broadcast towers were decimated, which only allowed them to broadcast online, this service is also essential to process federal paperwork for people impacted by this storm and therefore impacting the health of the community and the response for assistance.
Washington Post "The Internet today is a necessity, and America’s smaller towns and communities are in trouble if their people can’t get online. "

SWLA and Affected areas of Suddenlink
>We are wanting a plan of action
>We want a deadline of when services are to be restored to the area
>Due to the length of outages and the length of restoring service:
- ALL Billing is to be suspended
- Any customer who has had service for the past 9 months (75% of a calendar year) is to receive credit of no less than 2 months of previous service (August and September)
- Any customer who claims HARDSHIP is to receive a WiFi hotspot provided by Suddenlink through an alternative provider until their services are reliably restored.
- ALL current rate plans that were active in July / August are to be price FROZEN, no rate increases can occur for no less than 5 years
- After 5 the year period, if a rate change is needed, then due to Suddenlink's bililng is individualized for each area, a rate change by Suddenlink must be approved by the local executive government for approval
-Rates are to be competitive with other providers as such with the available speed rates.
- ALL Customers will have the option to transition to the July / August 2020 rate plans as a NEW customer without contract or keep their current plan, which ever is cheaper
- ALL Network upgrade fees for the past 12 months are to be refunded
- Network upgrade fees are to be removed from all billing due to Suddenlink's lack of implementing any new equipment or upgraded equipment for the greater percentage of their customers.
- Suddenlink will be required to have 2 redundancy trunklines due to previous incident "Downed fiber lines cause Tyler-area outage for Suddenlink customers
Tyler, TX| KLTV | 06-08-20"
- Suddenlink is to implement alternative truckline routes through other carriers in order to maintain services
