Stop Swindon Borough Council from cutting the school crossing guard on Eastcott Road

Every day pupils and their families of King William Street CE Primary School, Lethbridge Primary School, and The Commonweal School cross Eastcott Road on their way to and from school.

Eastcott Road is a very busy road and during the commuting period is used by hundreds of vehicles. The busiest crossing point is near a blind chicane corner and has several busy turnings onto side streets and car parks which are very well used.

For decades, pupils crossing Eastcott Road have been kept safe by a crossing guard. The current crossing guard has decided to move on after 15 years of hard work. Swindon Borough Council has announced that it will not be hiring a replacement, leaving children to cross this busy and dangerous road without any crossing.

This decision seems to have been made without any consultation, without assessing the danger that this would put children and motorists in, and without reference to the council's statutory duty to provide safe highways for schools and other pedestrians.

This petition calls on Swindon Borough Council to reverse this decision and to continue to provide a safe crossing for children on Eastcott Road.
