Tesco want to fell 8 mature (some with Tree Protection Order (TPO)) plane trees outside its Swansea Marina store. Tesco says these trees need to be felled because the paving is lifting and is causing people to trip. There is no evidence for this, furthermore engineering solutions should be considered first and felling should only occur as a last resort. We cannot fell every single tree due to "trip hazards".

Tesco propose to replace these trees but they will be small saplings, and will take decades to gain the benefits that the felled trees bring.

5 mature trees have already been felled and there should be no further loss of these trees; city trees are extremely important for the urban environment for a variety of environmental and aesthetic reasons. Swansea already has a very low urban tree cover and the Council should seek to retain these trees in line with their Green Infrastructure strategy.

- Ask for full consideration of engineering solutions, with felling as a last resort.

- Complain to your local councillor.
