Stop the Traffic Lights and Traffic Circles on McAllister St.
Why this petition matters

The safety of pedestrians and bikers on McAllister Street and the character of our neighborhood is at risk.
We do not feel that your new proposal to move buses more quickly through our neighborhood does enough to protect the safety of the many bikers and pedestrians who use McAllister Street every day.
We specifically opposed the addition of traffic lights on McAllister at Broderick and Scott, and the the replacement of stop signs with traffic circles at Steiner and Lyon.
We are once again concerned with neighborhood safety. Guidelines for traffic calming circles from the Institute of Transportation Engineers state that in order to slow traffic the space allowed should be 5 feet. The proposed McAllister plans allow for 13 feet—allowing enough space that traffic will not need to slow down to pass through the intersection. Traffic circles also pose a greater risk to cyclists who can’t been seen by cars moving through the circle.
We are once again asking the city to protect pedestrian and bicycle safety in this neighborhood. These measures will save the 5 Fulton less than 90 seconds on its route downtown, while putting those of us who live and walk and ride on McAllister every day with our families and children, at risk.
