The Butterfly Foundation set to be axed

The Butterfly Foundation set to be axed
The issue
The very thought of a service that contributed to saving my life being axed is completely gut-wrenching.
The Butterfly Foundation is Australia’s ONLY dedicated eating disorder support service. Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness yet it is still something that’s totally misunderstood by most health professionals.
I spent years seeing doctors/psychiatrists/counsellors even hospital visits but none of these services provided anywhere near the support or understanding that TBF did.
I cannot properly convey how important this cause is to me.
For years I was in denial about the fact I even had an eating disorder - controlling my food intake quickly became a huge part of my life and consumed my thoughts 24/7. It didn't just ruin my relationship with my body/myself but it also contributed to multiple friendship breakdowns, constant fatigue, an array of health problems that I am still working through. Waking up everyday and not knowing if I was going to make it to the end of the day didn't even seem like a good enough reason to seek help. Which is so catastrophic and I almost cant believe this is something SO many people go through yet almost no health professionals understand.
When I finally decided to seek help it seemed like everything became immensely harder. No one understood and I was constantly given advice that would contribute negatively to my eating disorder.
It was only once I discovered The Butterfly Foundation that things finally started to change and progress. Eating Disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness yet TBF is Australia's ONLY dedicated eating disorder support service.
Without TBF I am certain I wouldn't be here today - this is just one of the many reasons I feel the need to support this cause and raise awareness about this devastating issue.
I am also fundraising for MAYDAYS. If you wish to donate please do so here - https://maydays.everydayhero.com/au/jacindy
