By signing this petition we are asking for a decrease in water hungry, non sustainable GMO crops (such as cotton) and replacing them with 3 sustainable crops - Hemp, Bamboo and Brown Seaweed.

The reasons for this are as follows:

• Hemp is 10x stronger than cotton, plus hemp doesn’t need as much water, which can definitely save a lot of the world’s water supplies.
• One acre of hemp can produce as much paper as 4-10 acres of trees over a 20-year cycle, but hemp stalks only take 4 months to mature, whereas trees take 20-80 years.
• Hemp oils actually offer more protein than soy.
• Hemp produces sustainable and low-cost fuel.
• Bamboo’s green footprint makes it a plant that could very well shape our future.
• Bamboo absorbs carbon dioxide and releases 35% more oxygen into the atmosphere than an equivalent stand of hardwood trees.
• Bamboo can be used in building, manufacturing, decoration, as a food source and the list just goes on.
• Some species of bamboo grow more than three feet a day.
• Bamboo can be stronger then steel!!!
• Unlike most cash crops, Bamboo requires no agricultural chemicals to thrive
• Seaweed can act as a significant carbon sink.
• Seaweed can be used to make plastics, fertiliser, food, fibre for clothing, lowering methane and many more.

Seaweed, Hemp, and Bamboo have so much to offer. The best part is that these plants are the fastest growing flora in the world!

Using these crops will help reduce our carbon footprint as well as reduce landfill as most products made from these plants are reusable and recyclable.
