Suspend the Police Officer who shot dead Marcus Meade Christmas Eve in Redditch or RESIGN?
The Issue
Petition Calling for the Suspension of the Officer that fired the fatal shot that killed Marcus Meade on Christmas Eve.
On Christmas Eve, 24th December 2024, Marcus Meade — a father of two — was experiencing a mental health crisis and was alone in his own flat. Though he was holding a knife, no one else was present or under threat. After a six-hour standoff, West Mercia Police forcibly entered his home and fatally shot him.
This use of deadly force raises serious concerns about how mental health incidents are handled and the decisions made that night.
We, the undersigned, call upon:
The Chief Constable of West Mercia Police to demonstrate leadership with integrity by suspending the officer who fired the fatal shot or by resigning if unwilling to act.
The Police & Crime Commissioner for West Mercia to intervene and act in the public interest, particularly as this marks the second police killing of a Black man during his time in office.
Marcus Meade needed help — not bullets. We demand accountability, justice, and a commitment to preventing such tragedies in the future.
