The Issue

It is deeply frustrating to see our active duty personnel, who put their lives on the line every day, being forced to wait in food lines due to a political standoff. What makes this situation even worse is knowing that those heartless political leaders, who are responsible for allowing such government shutdowns, continue to receive their salaries without interruption. This discrepancy is not only a gross injustice but also a disrespect to the honor and service of our military members.

During a government shutdown, countless government employees, including our brave military personnel, face the immense stress of not receiving their pay. This situation places an unimaginable strain on their families and livelihoods. Meanwhile, those in positions of power—such as senators, congresspersons, Supreme Court justices, and members of the Executive Branch- remain financially unaffected. This inequality is unacceptable and undermines the principles of fairness and equity.

A government shutdown should be felt uniformly by all those tied to the government payroll. The suspension of pay should include the very people whose actions, or inactions, result in the shutdowns: our lawmakers. The notion that those responsible for the standstill continue to benefit financially while others suffer is wrong and needs to be addressed immediately.

By suspending the pay of lawmakers during government shutdowns, we create a direct incentive for them to resolve quickly and responsibly, prioritizing the well-being of all citizens, especially those who serve selflessly in our military.

We demand immediate legislation to suspend pay for all government officials: Senators, Congresspeople, Supreme Court Justices, and the Executive Branch, during any government shutdown. Those in power must face the actual consequences of their actions. Please stand with us and take a stand for equality and fairness for every government employee by signing this petition. Let's make our voices heard!
