The Issue

Washington families are facing a financial crisis at the gas pump. Our state endures some of the highest gas prices in the nation, often exceeding $5 per gallon due to the current global oil situation. Coupled with a state gas tax of approximately 55 cents per gallon—one of the highest in the United States—the cost becomes unbearable for many.

The impact of these inflated prices is far-reaching. Everyday drivers are finding it harder to afford their daily commutes, and small businesses are experiencing increased operational expenses that threaten their survival. Working families are forced to make difficult decisions to cut back on other essential expenditures to fill their tanks. Seniors living on fixed incomes may be particularly vulnerable to this financial strain, as their budgets allow no room for these unexpected spikes.

Every fill-up costs us $10–20 more than it should. Such an additional burden isn't just financially unsustainable but also emotionally and mentally taxing for our community. Washington residents deserve immediate relief from these compounded fuel costs.

We call upon our state lawmakers to take decisive action by spending and/or reducing the state gas tax and reassessing other associated fees. A targeted reduction or suspension would provide critical financial relief and demonstrate empathy towards the constituents affected by these economic pressures. Let's make commuting and running businesses affordable again for all Washingtonians.

Join us in demanding change and sign this petition to urge our legislators to bring immediate and necessary adjustments to state fuel policies.
