The daily stream of images of starving Palestinians, Israeli war crimes, and the utter destruction of all of Gaza before the Israeli government's ultimate takes over the strip, despite the international outcry, has left Israel as a pariah state that operates beyond modern day accountability. 

When Israeli football fans caused chaos in Amsterdam there were increasingly deep concerns about the country's politics and politicians, especially in light of Israel's failure to cooperate with the ICC's war crime investigations, sharing the same values as Europe's footbal sporting body. This ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank raises serious ethical questions about Israel's current involvement playing in Europe.

Statistically today, every 12 minutes, a Palestinian is reportedly killed by Israeli security forces, making the humanitarian crisis in the region unsustainable and distressing. As of now, over 60,000 Palestinians are estimated to have perished since the violence began, creating an urgent human catastrophe that has only been worsened by Israeli attacks on journalists, hospitals, and civilians all the while forcefully evicting family from their ancestral homes.

UEFA suspended Russia from its competitions in response to its illegal invasion of Ukraine. This precedent highlights the need for consistent accountability across nations, focusing on human rights and European values. Just as Russia was held to account, it’s time we call for similar measures against Israel.

Suspending Israel from UEFA competitions could serve as a powerful statement against their actions. This suspension would send a clear message to the Israeli government that the global community demands accountability and an end to human rights abuses if Israel wishes to play the beautiful game with other nations who respect basic human rights.

Urge UEFA to act as a governing body that stands firmly for human rights and justice, drawing a bold line against violations. Urge nations in Israel's World Cup Group I, including Moldova, Italy, Norway, and Estonia to boycott their matches against Israel, just as Poland and Sweden boycotted Russia in their own group before Russia was suspended. Suspension is a potent form of cultural sanctions that could potentially incite change and prioritize the welfare of innocent lives.
