We, the undersigned, call upon FIFA and the international football community to take a principled and ethical stand by withdrawing the Iran national football team from the FIFA World Cup 2026.

For decades, the Islamic Republic of Iran has engaged in systematic and widespread violations of human rights, including but not limited to:

1. The killing of peaceful protesters
2. Arbitrary arrests, torture, and forced confessions
3. Execution of political dissidents
4. Suppression of women, ethnic minorities, and religious groups
5. State-sponsored violence that meets the criteria of crimes against humanity

Sport cannot be separated from reality when a regime uses national teams as tools of propaganda and legitimacy, while simultaneously committing violence against its own people.

Historical Responsibility
International sport has a clear precedent for acting against state violence. After World War II, Germany and Japan were barred from the 1950 World Cup due to the actions of their regimes, not their athletes. More recently, following its invasion of Ukraine, Russia was banned from the 2022 and 2026 World Cups.

These decisions sent an unmistakable message: nations that commit aggression and systematic abuses cannot use global sports to legitimize their actions. Human dignity must come before football.

Today, Iran’s ruling regime stands in a similar moral position. Allowing the Iranian national team to participate under the current government’s symbols and control normalizes and whitewashes atrocities.

This Is Not Against the Players or the People
This petition is not directed against Iranian athletes, many of whom are themselves under pressure, threat, or censorship. Nor is it against the Iranian people, who are the primary victims of this regime.

Rather, this is a call to deny authoritarian governments the use of global sports platforms to legitimize repression.

Our Demands
We respectfully urge FIFA to:

1. Suspend the Iran Football Federation until independent human rights standards are met
2. Prevent the Iranian regime from using the World Cup as a political showcase
3. Stand publicly with the victims of state violence and repression

Football claims to unite humanity. That unity is meaningless if it ignores mass suffering.

Silence is complicity.

We ask FIFA to act, not politically, but morally.

 
ما، امضاکنندگان این درخواست، از فیفا و جامعه بین‌المللی فوتبال می‌خواهیم که با اتخاذ موضعی اصولی و اخلاقی، تیم ملی فوتبال ایران را از جام جهانی ۲۰۲۶ فیفا کنار بگذارند.

برای دهه‌ها، جمهوری اسلامی ایران به‌طور سیستماتیک و گسترده مرتکب نقض حقوق بشر شده است؛ از جمله، اما نه محدود به:

1. کشتار معترضان مسالمت‌آمیز
2. بازداشت‌های خودسرانه، شکنجه و اعترافات اجباری
3. اعدام مخالفان و زندانیان سیاسی
4. سرکوب زنان، اقلیت‌های قومی و مذهبی
5. خشونت سازمان‌یافته‌ی حکومتی که مصداق جنایت علیه بشریت است

زمانی که یک حکومت از تیم‌های ملی به‌عنوان ابزار تبلیغات و مشروعیت‌بخشی استفاده می‌کند، در حالی که هم‌زمان علیه مردم خود خشونت اعمال می‌کند، نمی‌توان ورزش را از واقعیت جدا دانست.

مسئولیت تاریخی
ورزش بین‌المللی سابقه‌ی روشنی در واکنش به خشونت دولتی دارد. پس از جنگ جهانی دوم، آلمان و ژاپن به‌دلیل اقدامات حکومت‌هایشان — و نه ورزشکارانشان — از جام جهانی ۱۹۵۰ محروم شدند. در سال‌های اخیر نیز، پس از تهاجم روسیه به اوکراین، تیم ملی روسیه از جام‌های جهانی ۲۰۲۲ و ۲۰۲۶ محروم شد.

این تصمیم‌ها پیام روشنی داشت: کشورهایی که مرتکب تجاوز و نقض سیستماتیک حقوق بشر می‌شوند، نباید از ورزش جهانی برای مشروعیت‌بخشی به اقدامات خود استفاده کنند. کرامت انسانی باید بر فوتبال مقدم باشد.

امروز، حکومت حاکم بر ایران در جایگاهی اخلاقی مشابه قرار دارد. اجازه دادن به حضور تیم ملی ایران تحت نمادها و کنترل حکومت فعلی، به‌معنای عادی‌سازی و تطهیر جنایات است.

این درخواست علیه بازیکنان یا مردم ایران نیست
این دادخواست علیه ورزشکاران ایرانی نیست؛ بسیاری از آنان خود تحت فشار، تهدید و سانسور قرار دارند. همچنین علیه مردم ایران نیست — مردمی که قربانیان اصلی این حکومت هستند.

هدف این درخواست، جلوگیری از آن است که حکومت‌های اقتدارگرا از پلتفرم‌های ورزشی جهانی برای مشروعیت‌بخشی به سرکوب استفاده کنند.

خواسته‌های ما
ما با احترام از فیفا می‌خواهیم که:

1. فدراسیون فوتبال ایران را تا تحقق استانداردهای مستقل حقوق بشری، تعلیق کند
2. مانع استفاده‌ی حکومت ایران از جام جهانی به‌عنوان ویترین سیاسی شود
3. به‌طور علنی در کنار قربانیان خشونت و سرکوب دولتی بایستد

فوتبال ادعای اتحاد بشریت را دارد؛ اما این اتحاد، اگر رنج گسترده‌ی انسان‌ها را نادیده بگیرد، بی‌معناست.

سکوت، همدستی است.

ما از فیفا می‌خواهیم نه از سر سیاست، بلکه از سر مسئولیت اخلاقی اقدام کند.
