The Las Cruces City Council Does Not Speak For Us!
This petition had 861 supporters
On July 5, 2016, the Las Cruces City Council voted to pass Resolution 17-006, which encourages the state legislature to pass a law requiring "universal background checks" during the next legislative session. Despite numerous citizens showing up to the meeting and expressing opposition along with two Council members, the Council decided to pass the measure.
We, the undersigned, want to make sure our governor and our legislators know that the Las Cruces City Council does not speak for us on this issue. We are opposed to creating yet another pointless gun law that violates the rights of the law abiding citizen while doing nothing to prevent mass casualty attacks.
Resolution 17-006 is merely the opinion of the mayor and a few Councilors. You should not assume that the citizenry of the second largest city in New Mexico actually supports gun control. Please, do not pass any such laws during the 2017 legislative session.
