Denver Public Schools - Equity In Back To School

Denver Public Schools - Equity In Back To School
The Issue
Superintendent Cordova,
We, the parents of Denver, are extremely concerned about the current state of the Denver Public Schools reopening plan, particularly around the lack of of attention around three things:
1) The lack of childcare for our 60,681 children that come from low income families
2) The lack of a safe in person option for our littlest of Denver kids (ECE and Kindergarten).
3) The lack of a commitment from DPS as to what performance metrics need to be achieved before we can move to the hybrid option.
We understand that DPS enrollment begins Monday 7/27. To elevate our voices, we are announcing an enrollment strike. We are hereby withholding our enrolling in Denver Public Schools until these three items are committed to by DPS.
Society has failed our families. The $600/week unemployment benefits that have kept our low income families afloat is gone. No rent moratorium exists. Kids are killing each other in the streets because they don't have any place to be.
The problems of our society do not, and should not rest solely on the shoulder's of our schools, but here we are, with an eminent disaster on the horizon and you control the school buildings that are a critical part of the solution. We implore you to use every bit of creativity that you and DPS can muster to address these three issues.
We know that creating safe childcare centers for children is hard. We applaud DPS for providing childcare for 3,900 children of teachers and staff, but we need you to do more.
