Climate change is the issue of our time. Yet CBC—Canada's taxpayer-funded public broadcaster—continues to give climate change deniers a platform.
Democracy depends on having an informed public. Disinformation corrodes democracy. Broadcasting disinformation is a public disservice.
Climate change deniers' goal is to confuse the public, sow doubt, and delay climate action to protect corporate profits. When CBC gives a platform to climate change deniers, it enables the denialist campaign.
CBC's mandate is to serve Canadians, not corporate agendas. Broadcasting climate change denial fails every test of good journalism. There is no justification for CBC to broadcast climate change denial in 2016.
In order to make wise and prudent decisions on climate action—and protect future generations from harm—Canadians need the best science available. Climate change denial fails the test. It's time to put climate change denial behind us.
