Save Scene-Points. Stop the devaluation of the scene-point movie rewards card.

The Issue

On November 4th, Scene LP is planning to change the scaling of their rewards program to include increased point requirements for VIP, 3D, DBOX, and AVX movies. This is a significant devaluation of scene points for each of the over 6.6 million Scene Members in Canada. They have announced that the rates of return on movie purchases will scale up similarly to that of the movie costs (ie. A 2000 point VIP movie will earn you 200 points instead of only 100). However, for most Scene users the majority of points are accumulated via the Scene Visa Card, which will remain at the original rate of return. This change essentially cuts the value of your existing and future purchases in HALF! Scene LP seems to have misjudged the value of their card. Many of us only have a Scene Visa card because of the high value they had placed on rewarding purchases, now that they have removed the value we are better off spending our money elsewhere and accruing rewards on a travel card such as Avion or Westjet. The Math... Old Way - $2000 spent on Scene Visa = two free movies @ VIP Rates = $50 return or 2.5% (this is an available percentage of return on many other credit cards which charge an annual fee, as Scene does) New Way - $2000 spent on Scene Visa = 1 free movie @ VIP Rates = $25 return or 1.25% (this is less return than one would receive with the West Jet Mastercard (1.5%), which also offers free baggage and a yearly $99 companion flight). So the question is, what else does a Scene Visa offer? The survey says... after cutting the rate of return by 50%... not much. Please sign this petition to take our business elsewhere starting on November 4th, unless Scene revises it's program more reasonably. The Scene rewards program was great, and we have used it for years, but this devaluation is a step in the wrong direction for one of the countries best.
