Massage Therapy is currently under Stage 3 of Reopening Maines Economy and set to Reopen for July-Aug. Please revise this order and allow Massage Therapist to Reopen in Stage 1 set for May Reopening. Massage Therapy is essential and a medical need. Many people will go for massage therapy sessions to help with chronic pain, injuries, post surgical treatment, stress, anxiety and so much more. Most of our clients see their massage therapist on a regular schedule, have that be weekly, monthly or every few months. These clients have faith and trust with their therapist and rely on the massage therapist to help them with their current ailments, injuries and pain. As of now our clients have gone almost two months without this essential service. This is a disrupt to their treatment plans. With proper disinfecting protocols in place and the use of face mask for the clients and therapists we can safety reopen. Face shields and/or eyewear can also be worn by the therapist. Regular hand washing before and after all client interactions will be done by the therapist. All clients are to wash their hands before entering the treatment room. Linens and blankets are changed between all clients. All surfaces, door knobs, tools and equipment are disinfected before and after all client use. Establish a new intake form and protocol to properly screen clients before treatment is being given. Outline the symptoms of COVID-19, travel concerns, ect. That if the client or anyone in their household fall under any area of concern regarding COVID-19 that treatment/service will not be provided at this time. The same will apply for the massage therapist. Massage Therapist work one to one with their clients. This means no big groups of people. Most Massage Therapist are self employed. Having to close our practices starting in March, have put great financial hardship on us. Having Massage be pushed out to July or August to reopen will result in some businesses having to close permanently. Many massage therapist are already seeing the affects of the financial strain this is putting on their business, themselves and family.  Please help us small business Massage Therapist reopen and soon.
