The recent SC ruling, calling for a stay on admissions to medical colleges on the basis of state held CET exams, is a travesty of justice. It harms the interests of lakhs of students who for the past 2 years have been diligently preparing for these exams on the basis of syllabi as prescribed by their respective state boards. More often than not, a significant majority of these students have had no exposure to the CBSE syllabus, which is prescribed for the NEET exams (which the SC has said will be used as a benchmark to evaluate the candidature to medical seats). The injustice lies not in the fact that the SC prescribes NEET to be the universal benchmark, but in the fact that this judgment was passed barely a few days before the crucial exams were to be conducted. Even the brightest of students cannot conceivably hope to cover lost ground within such a short duration. Were the courts in a state of slumber for the past few years that they suddenly woke up and passed this judgment without a thought to the lakhs of students who would be adversely impacted? On behalf of these adversely affected students its is an earnest appeal to you to look into this matter and save the lives and future of these aspiring doctors - a breed of professionals that this country so desperately needs!
