Omaree Varela was just 9-year-old when he was kicked to death by his mother, Synthia Varela-Casaus.

Prosecutors say her husband Steve Casaus was using heroin in a nearby room, when Omaree's mother kicked, beat and stomped on the little boy.

Prosecutors say Omaree slowly died of internal bleeding, and Casaus waited hours to help him. Casaus was sentenced to 30 years back in 2015 for that crime, for burning Omaree with a cigarette, and for telling Omaree's younger brother and sister not to tell police what happened” - -N. Laflin
