Pennsylvania's constables play a vital role in our criminal justice system and judiciary, performing essential law enforcement duties such as serving warrants, transporting prisoners, and maintaining order at polling places.  Importantly, constable compensation comes not from taxpayer dollars, but through fees paid by plaintiffs in civil cases or defendants in criminal cases.  This means their services have minimal direct financial impact on Pennsylvania residents.

Despite the critical and often dangerous nature of their work, and the fact that constables are responsible for providing their own equipment, supplies, and basic training, the statutory fees that compensate them haven't been increased in over two decades.  This outdated fee structure is no longer sustainable.

Senate Bill 83 and House Bill 285, introduced in the 2025-2026 legislative session, offer a much-needed opportunity to update these fees.  By signing this petition, you can demonstrate your support for these bills and for the dedicated constables who serve our communities.  Thank you.
