Support Troy’s Resentencing
The Issue
Troy Schweiger is serving 15-40 years for crimes he doesn’t remember at the age of 20 years old. He is now 27 and has served 6 years towards his sentence already. They claimed he drove to three robberies and did one himself. No harm was done at any of the robberies, as well as no hospitalization, not a scratch or handprint. He’s next to killers who have a max out date that is one third of the minimum time he was sentenced too. How can you possibly equate a robbery or even a series of robberies that included zero injuries to a family who will never see their loved one smile again. Troy has done three years in his county where he was sometimes locked in his cell for three weeks straight, only getting time out of the cell for showers three times a week due to staff shortages. Dauphin County is nationally ranked as one of the most inhumane county jails across America; with roaches and mice everywhere in a cell where the walls sweat and you have people sleeping on the floor in boxers due to lack of ventilation. If he had to explain the fleeing and eluding, I think he did. He doesn’t believe crimes of armed robbery are excusable, but again, he sees people who have committed murder that get a third of the time he got so his sentencing could definitely be reconsidered. He has two kids who don’t even know he exists, and won’t even get the chance of having a relationship with their father until they are 13 and 15 at best. Troy’s coconspirators got off completely or did just juvenile time since they were young enough. The notion that Troy influenced or controlled those people has no merit since the others went on to commit further crimes. Given the support of the community, we could help free an impactful citizen whose actions will speak for themselves. The recidivism rate declines with every step of education taken while incarcerated. Troy has taken all opportunities earning nine certificates to improve and make something of himself for the last three years now. He’s completed certificates in financing, drug programming, parole education, kairos reunions, as well as welding certifications. His next educational program he is pursuing is cosmetology/ hair cutting and braiding. With everything above at hand please take the time to put yourself in his shoes and help someone who has been given an unfair sentence.
