SUPPORT TO KEEP OAKWOOD PARKS NAME & RETRACT MOTION FOR OAKWOOD PARK NAME CHANGE IN VENICE
Why this petition matters

Oakwood Park is a Historic Park that is located in the Oakwood Area, the heart of Venice, CA. Historically, the Oakwood area was predominately made up of Chicano/Mexican American and Black families. It is where both the Chicano/Mexican Americans and Blacks share deep roots in Venice. Many original families have fond memories of birthday celebrations, Life of Celebrations, weddings, gatherings, cultural events and so on. The old “Save Venice”Group decided to change the name and intentionally excluded the Brown Community from all discussions in a unforthcoming manner. By changing the name, it would erase not only the Venice Oakwood Park history, but the Chicano/Mexican American History in the Oakwood area. Let’s be inclusive in our discussions and not create division within the brown and black community. Please sign the petition and Help Support to retract the motion of the Oakwood Park name change in Venice.
