Support Tippecanoe County Farmers and Responsible Solar Energy

Support Tippecanoe County Farmers and Responsible Solar Energy
The Issue
Stand with Tippecanoe County farmers and support their right to choose solar; support our Tippecanoe County solar ordinance that balances clean energy, farmland preservation, and community values.
In Tippecanoe County, some of our neighbors are choosing to lease parts of their land for solar energy projects. This decision offers real, long-term benefits not just for landowners, many of which are farmers, but for our entire community.
Our County Ordinance Makes Sure We Benefit
Tippecanoe County has passed one of Indiana’s most thoughtful and protective solar ordinances. It ensures that solar projects:
- Properly manage stormwater runoff to protect neighboring properties and natural resources
- Include safety considerations
- Require the use of native vegetation around panels to protect soil, promote pollinators, and preserve the rural landscape
- Requires plans for decommissioning the project upon retirement
Our ordinance sets the right standards, and stakeholders are able to further tailor agreements for each solar project that is proposed in the community.
Sustainable Practices
Solar energy is clean, quiet, and renewable. It reduces our dependence on fossil fuels and supports the long-term health of our environment—cleaner air, lower emissions, and a better future for Tippecanoe County.
Economic Resilience
Leasing land for solar provides a stable source of income, helping farmers weather unpredictable markets and maintain ownership of their land for future generations.
This is about giving farmers choices. Our community and neighbors deserve to benefit from solar power, and property owners deserve to reap benefits from leasing their land for solar. It’s about trusting landowners, honoring property rights, and embracing innovation that keeps Tippecanoe strong.
I am calling on county commissioners and local decision-makers to protect our Tippecanoe Solar Ordinance so that our entire county can reap the benefits of solar energy.
There is a proposed one-year moratorium on the solar ordinance being heard on Monday, June 2, at 10:00 AM ET.
Sign this petition if you support our local farmers, responsible solar development, and the smart policies that make both possible.
