Friend,

Only five days ago, the outcome of the federal budget left me feeling very disappointed and angry. Like many young people, I continue to feel let down and helpless because of the government's inaction on climate.

The federal government decided to pour in 58.6 million dollars to further fund the gas industry. When there are already billions upon billions of dollars supporting this dirty, and hazardous industry, this gas-fired “recovery” is fuelling the current climate crisis.

We’ve already seen the impacts. From bushfires to torrential flooding, the climate crisis is here right now, and not enough is being done. The Morrison government needs to act now.

The news of the federal budget is awful. But instead of sitting at home and dwelling on my climate anxiety, I’m taking to the streets this Friday.

Will you join me, Friend?

On May 21, people young and old are striking for a safer future.

Here in Sydney, we are starting our strike in Town Hall at 12pm to hear from the voices of those most marginalised by the climate crisis. Afterwards, we are marching to Prince Alfred Park where we are making a human sign to make our message loud and clear to the Morrison government! You can RSVP here to our event.

In Melbourne, we are gathering in Treasury Gardens at 1pm to chant, listen, learn from First Nations speakers, from those affected by climate change, from leaders in our commuity. Then we march. You can RSVP here.

In Brisbane, we will meet at 1pm in King George Square in hundreds and thousands, we will wear our masks and bring our posters and make our way to Parliament House to make sure we are heard. You can RSVP here.

In Hobart, hundreds of us will come together in Parliament Lawns at 12pm to show our power. RVSP here.

In Adelaide, from 11am we will fill Victoria Square with our vision for a fair, safe future. Join our voices as we march and make history. RSVP here.

In Perth, the fight will be personal. We're striking at 12pm in Supreme Court Gardens against gas projects that threaten Western Australia and our climate. Our land, water and air is under attack. You bet we will fight back. RSVP here.

In Canberra, we'll take the fight straight to our politicians. Join us at 11am in Glebe Park. There will be performance, inspiring speeches and a big march around the political capital. RSVP here.

In Darwin, we will open the mic to you, to student voices. We will rally in masses at Parliament House to fight for a safe future. The government wants to frack gas in the Northern Territory, but we won't let them. RSVP here.

And in almost 50 regional towns, we will bring our communities together, young, old, student and adult will join forces in our towns. Because we know that regional Australia is hurting, the drought, the bushfires, the workers in mines, they hurt small towns first. So we will make sure that our voices are heard and that climate action recognises us and gives ALL Australians safe jobs on the way to net zero.

You can see our 50 strikes here.

We need you, Friend. Gas is not the way forward out of this pandemic. We need to be investing in clean, safe energy sources that are led by First Nations communities. Join thousands of us across hundreds of locations around the country in the biggest #ClimateStrike since the pandemic.

See you this Friday, striking for a safer future.

With hope,

Amelia, School Strike 4 Climate

P.S If you can't make it on the day, please support our crowdfunder. We need donations from adults like you to make our strikes safe, accessible and powerful as possible.
