Hello!
I hope for a renewable energy future - free from gas and coal. I hope to see fossil fuel workers and their communities supported in the transition to new jobs. Right now, the government could use the Covid-19 recovery fund to pay for this transition.
But when I think about the news that the government wants to give billions to the gas industry - an industry that will destroy my future - I feel scared, worried, and anxious.
There’s still time to stop the government’s plans to give billions to gas. That’s why I’m hosting an action to call on the government to #FundOurFutureNotGas. I’m not going to lie, it's a bit scary organising an action. But it’s not as scary as doing nothing.
We’re living in a pandemic, so September 25th isn’t about turning out big numbers. Instead, it’s about organising as many actions as we can of 10-20 people in small Covid safe gatherings in every town, street, living room, under the Big Banana, everywhere!
Can you join us to show the government that people in every corner of Australia want them to tear up their plans to fund a massive gas expansion, and instead fund our future.
There are already over 35 actions registered from Perth to Taree and from Hobart to the Sunshine Coast. But if we want to show the government that we really don’t want gas destroying our future we need EVERYONE from EVERYWHERE to join us.
I’m from Melbourne and we’re in lockdown. So I’ve been spending hours organising with others to make this day huge, so when lock down is over, the world can be a little bit better. In Melbourne, we’re organising a big online rally because we can’t hit the streets. If you register an action, we’ll let you know how at your action you can tune in to watch the rally.
I remember first hearing about the government’s plans to fund gas and feeling frustrated that our ‘leaders’ think that ramping up gas - one of the most polluting fossil fuels - is a viable solution to this crisis when it’s not. There are soooooo many better, more sustainable solutions that could be funded to give myself and young people a fighting chance at a future.
Together we need to say NO to gas and yes to a future that invests in renewable energy, just transitions, and First Nations led solutions - so join us!
I can’t wait to see all the actions! Click here to help us fight gas.
In power,
Ella - School Striker from Melbourne
