Hey Friends,
I’m sure you’ve heard by now - instead of a recovery plan that creates a fair future, our government is trying to give billions to the polluting gas industry - but did you know the Australian gas industry is just hot air?
This week, a damning report released by one of the government's own bodies has shown that the gas industry is ‘dysfunctional’, and ‘failing to support any form of recovery’ [1] and in fact, there is already such an oversupply of gas, ships full of the stuff are ‘sailing in circles’ [2] because nobody wants to buy it!
Yet, the government is pushing forward with its plan to prop up this failing industry and line the pockets of their mates in the gas industry with billions of dollars instead of building a fair, just and sustainable future.
Here’s how we stop them. The government is trying to sneak ahead with these rotten plans right under our noses. That’s why, on September 25th, we need actions in every suburb, town, and community of Australia so Scott Morrison and the government knows that EVERYONE knows their dirty gas-fired secret.
Whether it is getting your local crew together online to take a group selfie (like below), gathering with ten mates in a park to get a photo with a banner, or creating a giant art installation which spells out a clear message - together we can plaster local media and social media with the same message - we want the government to to #FundOurFutureNotGas!
While we might be physically further apart than usual, if we all wear yellow and make sure our actions include the words Fund Our Future Not Gas, we can show the government that the community wants them to ditch their gas plans and invest in a fair recovery.
The government has been trying to cover-up this disastrous plan while pretending gas is a transition fuel and we need to expose them. We know thousands of Australians want a renewable energy future, not more gas, but we have a small window of opportunity to stop this disastrous plan before the gas is turned up.
In solidarity,
Emillia - South Australian Striker.
P.s. We have a bunch of resources to help your organise your action. Check out our organisers guide to get inspired and organised for September 25th!
