Support the Safe Return of 18,000 Stranded Nigerian Refugees in Chad Republic
The Issue
I am taking a stand for 18,000 of our fellow people, overlooked Nigerian refugees, stranded in Chad Republic. These are women, men and children who fled the destructive path of violence only to find themselves trapped in a foreign land, forgotten and neglected. Most were forced to leave behind not just their homes, but their livelihoods, and the dignity that comes with leading a stable, safe life. They urgently need our support and solidarity to secure a safe return, reinstate their education, regain their livelihoods, and restore their dignity.
According to the United Nations Refugee Agency, over 2.2 million Nigerians are currently displaced, with approximately 18,000 stranded in Chad (UNHCR, 2021). The continuing displacement crisis, ignited by inequality, poverty, and violence, requires urgent international attention. While global discussions on refugees often overlook the African continent, it's essential to stress that these lives matter.
In my quest for help, I am moved by the personal connections forged with some of these forgotten souls, prompting me to understand that we share a common thread of humanity that calls us all to action.
This plea is not just for the Nigerian refugees in Chad Republic, but a call to maintain our collective humanity. Let us echo the whispering voices of these 18,000 lives, trapped yet full of desperation and hope. They are forgotten but not lost.
Today, I ask for your support to advocate for their safe return home, education, livelihoods, and dignity. We must lift their plight from the shadows and into the light of global attention. Let's stand together for their return, for their recovery, and for their rights. Please sign this petition and join me in this fight.
