Support The Reopening of a local Childcare service
The Issue
We, the undersigned, are calling for immediate support to help reopen a childcare service in Portlaoise (SuperKids ChildCare Center) that is currently unable to access funding and approvals needed to operate.
This service was forced to close due to circumstances out of its control and has since made extensive efforts to reopen including applications, calls and requests for funding and support. Despite this, it has been unable to meet the criteria to move forward.
At the same time, Portlaoise and surrounding areas are experiencing a serious shortage of childcare places. Families are struggling to find suitable care, and this is directly impacting parent’s ability to work and support their households.
Reopening this service would:
- Create employment for at least 10 people
- Provide much needed childcare places for local families
- Support working parents and their wider local community
- Deliver accessible childcare through government schemes such as ECCE, NCS and AIM
- Provide essential early childhood education and care
We are asking for:
- Clear guidance on what is preventing this service from qualifying
- Practical support to help the provider meet all necessary requirements
- Flexibility and urgency in addressing barriers, given the clear childcare shortage
- Active intervention from local representatives to prioritize this issue
This is not just about one business, it is about families, children, and the wider community in Portlaoise who urgently need more childcare options.
