Support the Rails-to-Trails Project
The Issue
I am a resident of Northeast Georgia, passionately driven to see my community flourish. My neighbors and I cherish our heritage and also sincerely acknowledge the need for progress which roots itself within the charm of our locality. There exists an opportunity to transform an historic railbed into a landscaped, multi-use path connecting Cornelia to Tallulah Falls and beyond. This Rails-to-Trails project signifies more than a mere beautification initiative, it also symbolizes economic acceleration, health betterment, and intense community pride.
These aren't mere assumptions; national data backs this belief. Projects of similar nature around the country have led to an average 16% increase in property values within a half-mile of the trail, contributing to an overall enhancement of local economies. ("National Study on the Estimated Value of Recreation Trails in Canada," Pierre Valois, University of Sherbrooke, 2017). Furthermore, the effect on health is tremendous; the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy has accumulated evidence of a 22-47% increase in physical activity amongst people living near trails (“Active Transportation for America”, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, 2009).
Preserving Northeast Georgia's heritage while simultaneously catalyzing growth, the Rails-to-Trails project is more than a trail—it's our future. Let's band together to build it. Sign the petition to manifest our community's commitment to progress rooted in place.
