For example, there was the case of Killua, a defenseless golden retriever who was brutally killed by a man who chased and beat him to death. Another case is the puppy who a mall security guard threw off an overpass. Furthermore, social media has also brought to our attention the gross neglect at the cat pound in Cavite. These are just a few examples of the many instances of animal cruelty that have come to light due to the power of social media. Our collective impact has made a change in how animals are treated, and most offenders have been convicted.

This is why we are calling for your support for Senate Bill No. 2458, also known as the "Revised Animal Welfare Act". This crucial legislation aims to enhance current animal welfare standards, policies, guidelines, and regulations by improving their implementation and supervision. It ensures a definite role of Local Government Units (LGUs), including barangays in responding to cases and violations. Moreover, the proposed Bill aims to create the Animal Welfare Bureau, an office dedicated to creating policies and responding to animal welfare concerns, including policies to ensure the humane treatment of animals in all aspects by establishing a system of programs, regulations, and implementation. While the bill is already tagged as a priority in the Senate, our collective and unified voice can make this movement work toward the passage we desire to achieve.
