Support the New Cass County Animal Shelter in Beardstown

Support the New Cass County Animal Shelter in Beardstown
The Issue
Beardstown has a chance to make a real difference for animals in need—and we can’t let it pass us by.
A group of dedicated volunteers has proposed turning the old Schmoldt Shelter House in Schmoldt Memorial Park into the new Cass County Animal Rescue shelter. It would be the county’s first and only animal shelter—offering hope, safety, and second chances to pets who are abandoned, lost, or in danger.
This is about more than a building. It’s about giving our community the tools to protect animals, support pet adoptions, and respond humanely to stray animal issues. Right now, Cass County lacks a central facility, which means too many animals slip through the cracks. This shelter would change that.
We understand that some residents have concerns about noise or traffic, but the plan includes specific hours, a small number of kennels, and thoughtful design to limit impact. The people behind this shelter aren’t outsiders—they’re neighbors who care deeply about both animals and our community.
Let’s show the Beardstown Park District Board that our town is ready to do the right thing.
Sign this petition to support the establishment of the Cass County Animal Rescue shelter at Schmoldt Memorial Park. Help us build a safer, more compassionate community—starting now.
