The day before our community pool closed, our daughter was just starting to get the hang of swimming. Watching her splash around, surrounded by friends and neighbors, reminded me of how special this place is. A community pool is so much more than just water; it’s where we gather, where our kids grow up, and where we make the memories that last through the warmest days of the year.

Unfortunately, the city of Campbell has made the decision to close our beloved 75 year old community pool due to unrepairable water leaks. While this issue needs addressing, it's critical for the city to recognize the pool's role in fostering community bonds and maintaining a healthy lifestyle for all residents. Swimming pools are valuable community resources that offer safe recreational space, promote physical activity, and serve as a venue for social interactions.

The decision to close the pool has deeply impacted our community, leaving many without an affordable place to swim, exercise, learn water safety, and enjoy the simple pleasure of a day at the pool. It also causes disruption in planned local swimming programs, potentially affecting children who are learning how to swim and adults looking for low-impact exercise options.

We urge the city to reconsider this decision and explore alternative solutions, such as allocating emergency funding for repairs (update 8/6/2026 -  community meeting - repair option is currently off the table due to the age of pool 75 years, single drain, costs to explore the water leak damage is too high), seeking state or federal grants (Update 8/6/2026 - state grant application is being worked on for a December deadline), or partnering with local businesses for sponsorship or support (8/6/2026 - a new non profit has been formed to help with partnering with community). This approach would address the current issues with the pool, while also acknowledging its significance to our community's well-being and quality of life.

By reopening the Campbell community pool, we revive a vital communal asset that not only enhances local public health but also brings us back together. We ask for your support in urging city officials to prioritize the necessary repairs and reopen our pool. The pool will reopen. The City has determined that a full renovation is more cost-effective and reliable than continuing frequent repairs. Funding is already included in the capital budget, so the main challenge is completing the complex design and construction process. Reopening the pool is a major priority and will happen as soon as feasible.

The City of Campbell has launched a dedicated pool project website and begun the community engagement process, including work to strengthen grant opportunities for the new pool.

Our goal now is to keep the community focused on one clear outcome: getting the Campbell Community Pool reopened.
