The Issue

I am a mother, Clinical Social Worker, and a supporter of the importance of providing quality education for our children's future. I started this petition to urge parents, educators, politicians, and community members to support The Light Academy’s fight to continue to provide quality education.

The Light Academy is a new private middle school located in Miramar, FL, dedicated to providing students a safe and inspiring space to learn. The school's approach focuses on Multiple Intelligences to meet the diverse needs of its students, recognizing their brilliance, nurturing their creativity, and empowering them in every way. On August 11th, 2025, The Light Academy opened their doors with students and staff thrilled to embark on a new educational journey. On August 12,  the second day of school,  the City of Miramar revoked building access for administrators, students, and staff. This action breached a contractual agreement between the City and educational institution leaving students and educators without classrooms or a school to call their own.

Why is this important?

The Light Academy represents more than just a school building to our children; it is a beacon of hope, ambition, and creativity. The administration and staff have worked tirelessly to ensure a positive learning environment, and their commitment to the students' bright future is unwavering. We, the parents, teachers, and community members, must stand together to urge the City of Miramar to provide answers and correct this injustice. This breach of contract has not only impacted the school but also the lives and futures of the children it serves. The City of Miramar has the responsibility to honor its agreements and ensure that The Light Academy can continue its mission of providing an outstanding educational experience. Let us not allow bureaucratic obstacles to hinder the growth and potential of our young learners.Join us in speaking up for the rights of The Light Academy's students. Let's ensure they can return to their school, resume their educational journey, and thrive in an environment designed to empower them towards a bright future. Sign this petition to help us make a compelling appeal to the City of Miramar and stand in support of securing the future for our children.
