Support the Legal Recognition and Protection of Community Cat Colonies in Bullhead City
The Issue
As compassionate members of We Care for Animals, a nonprofit organization, our mission is to humanely lower the population of community cats through Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNR) practices in Bullhead City, AZ, USA. Our committed cat colony caregivers dedicate every day to maintaining and caring for community cats — providing them with food, water, shelter, essential medical care, and other forms of sustenance.
However, our mission and ability to support these vulnerable cats could be jeopardized without legal protections. We believe that community cat colonies should be legally recognized and maintained by individuals, rescue organizations, shelters, and animal control offices to carry out TNR and TNR programs. Moreover, a cat released in accordance to local humane protocols such as Chapter 10.06, should not be seen as being abandoned per Section 10.32.010.
Research indicates that TNR programs not only reduce homeless cat populations, but also improve the lives of these cats significantly (National Animal Interest Alliance). While we understand the concerns regarding overpopulation and strays, it's necessary to clarify that TNR programs help in alleviating these issues, not aggravating them.
Today, we call upon the lawmakers and community leaders of Bullhead City to protect our community cats and safeguard citizens' ability to conduct peaceful and humane TNR activities. Reflecting our love for animals and commitment to their welfare, we ask for your support to legally recognize and ensure the protection of community cat colonies.
Please, sign this petition to show your endorsement of a compassionate approach towards the wellbeing of community cats in Bullhead City, and help us present a strong case to our leaders for the urgently needed policy changes.
