Support The Investigation of Mission Veterinary Emergency & Specialty re: Kismet's Death
The Issue
We, the undersigned community members, pet owners, and concerned citizens, write to express our STRONG SUPPORT for the FORMAL COMPLAINT filed by Marjorie Urton-Smith against MISSION VETERINARY EMERGENCY & SPECIALTY currently BEFORE THE KANSAS BOARD OF VETERINARY EXAMINERS regarding the medical treatment and TRAGIC DEATH of KISMET while under the care of their veterinarian's from 01-14-2026 to 01-18-2026.
Veterinary licensing boards exist to PROTECT CONSUMERS and to ENSURE THAT LICENSED PROFESSIONALS "UPHOLD the HIGHEST STANDARDS of MEDICAL CARE and ETHICS".
When a facility fails so profoundly that a beloved pet & family member loses their life due to errors and/or potential negligence or malpractice, IT IMPACTS the SAFETY & TRUST of the ENTIRE COMMUNITY.
By signing this Petition, we URGE the KANSAS BOARD OF VETERINARY EXAMINERS to:
1. Conduct a rigorous, exhaustive and completely transparent investigation into all medical staff involved in Kismet's care at Mission Veterinary Emergency & Specialty.
2. Carefully review the facility's protocols, staffing levels, adherence to the legally required standards of care, and their emergency response standards during the time of Kismet's treatment for Lily Toxicity, a truly critical, life-threatening medical emergency requiring IMMEDIATE intervention.
3. Meticulously, thoroughly and exhaustively review their medical records protocols and standards.
4. Conduct a scrupulous, and cross-referenced, review of any and all records related to Kismet's care at their facility, which strongly suggests their engagement in possible fraudulent documentation practices.
5. Enforce the law and impose strict disciplinary actions such as license revocations, license suspensions and/or corrective mandates if the investigation reveals violations of the Kansas Veterinary Practice Act by any and all of the veterinarians involved in Kismet's medical care.
Our COMMUNITY RELIES on EMERGENCY VETERINARY SERVICES during the MOST CRITICAL MOMENTS of our pets' lives.
We DESERVE TO KNOW that facilities operating in our state are held to strict standards of accountability when errors and possible negligence and malpractice occur.
