My family and I are local residents of Merley who want to contribute to the vibrancy and sense of community in our area. We have this wonderful idea – a unique, cozy coffee shop right in our property that we believe could bring the neighborhood closer together. The idea is not only a personal dream of ours but also stems from the growing importance and popularity of coffee shops as community spaces.  We are due to present our proposal at a planning committee next month and hope this petition will show the level of local support.

Studies show that coffee shops play a critical role in promoting social interaction and communal identity. According to an article in The Guardian, "Coffee shops are the hubs of neighborhoods: places for everyone, spaces of social equality, crucial to city life". As residents of Merley, we believe our community deserves a space like this.

The intention isn't just to sell coffee but to create a hub where neighbours can gather, bond over a hot cup, share ideas, and build a stronger sense of community. This is more than just business for us. It is about giving back to the community that we hold so dear.

We are working with BCP to ensure that off road parking requirements are met.  But as we are located very much in the 'hub' of Merley opposite the Lantern, our aim is very much to cater to foot traffic rather than encourage people out in their cars.  Remaining sensitive to our neighbours and the daily routines of the area is very much in our minds, you can find out more on BCP's planning portal where our full proposal can be found.
