Support the Foam Free Maine Act: Ban Polystyrene Food Use Now!
The Issue
The Foam Free Maine Act is a step toward a cleaner, safer future—one where polystyrene doesn’t poison our streets, our food, or our environment. Add your name and make your voice count.
Since it was first commercialized nearly a century ago, polystyrene has been polluting our planet. It leaks toxic chemicals into our food, clogs our waterways, and lingers in our environment for hundreds of years. It’s not just a problem—it’s everywhere. In the packaging we get, the cups we drink from, even the air we breathe on hot days.
We’re all impacted. You, me, your neighbors—it’s in the food we eat; it crumbles on the sidewalks we walk, and it’s rejected by nearly every recycling center in the country. It doesn’t break down, and it doesn’t go away.
Yes, Maine passed a ban in 2021 on polystyrene for food use—but there are still huge loopholes. The ban doesn’t cover personal use, government-led programs, or products made only partially from polystyrene. So yeah... it’s still very much out there.
It’s time to do better.
By supporting the Foam Free Maine Act, you’re standing up for real change. You’re helping protect Maine’s wildlife, waterways, and people. You’re helping push forward a law that actually fills in the gaps.
If polystyrene can last for centuries, so can the choices we make today.
