I have witnessed families and children struggling to access enough food for their daily needs, while on the other hand, tons of food are wasted every day. The sight of hungry kids with bright aspirations stifled by empty stomachs is heart-wrenching. Yet, the potential to change this grim picture is within our reach.

Globally, one-third of all food produced is either lost or wasted. That amounts to about 1.3 billion tons of food annually. Meanwhile, in rural areas like mine, families face hunger not because there's no food, but because they simply cannot afford it. If even a fraction of the food being wasted each day could be redirected to those in need, we could make a monumental difference.

Supporting food donation initiatives is not just about giving what we have in extra; it's about building a compassionate community where no one has to go to bed hungry. To achieve this, we need structured programs that facilitate the collection and distribution of surplus food to underserved areas. Collaborating with local farmers, restaurants, and supermarkets can create a sustainable network of food donations and ensure that excess food is transported to the right places, at the right time.

Furthermore, government policies should support and incentivize businesses and individuals to participate in food donation programs. Tax incentives for businesses that donate food, grants for organizations coordinating logistics, and better-informed legislation can all help address the hurdles of food wastage and hunger.
