The Issue

Asian American history is rarely talked about in our classrooms. We remember sitting in social studies classes, wondering where Asian Americans were during pivotal moments in U.S. history. What is taught is the victim or perpetual foreigner narrative, with one paragraph on the Japanese American Incarceration or the Chinese Exclusion Act. We are much more than that.

Last year, more than half of Asian American students participated in AP courses, more than any other racial group. Yet, our history is absent from the AP curriculum. It’s time for a course that represents the students that the College Board serves.

We are a coalition of students advocating for the creation of AP Asian American Studies. But our mission doesn't end here. Our vision is rooted in solidarity, following the path paved by AP African American Studies, and will continue until all marginalized groups’ histories are included. The story isn't complete without all of us.

Join us as we advocate for the teaching of comprehensive U.S. history.
