Support the creation of a community land trust CLT \
The Issue
Having lived in NEPA for decades and engaged directly with our community members through various initiatives, from helping families secure homes through advocacy and agency Realtor services to organizing local school fundraisers, I have seen firsthand the immense value our land holds for its people. Our forests are not just scenic landscapes; they represent a shared heritage, a place where our community gathers, nurtures traditions, and finds peace in the untamed beauty of nature. The time has come to ensure these lands are protected for current and future generations through the establishment of a Community Land Trust (CLT).
A Community Land Trust would allow us, as residents, to maintain collective ownership of significant tracts of our local land. This not only ensures that they remain undeveloped and conserved for wildlife but also allows us to utilize them for recreational purposes. By preserving these lands, we protect vital ecosystems, ensure biodiversity, and provide spaces where community members can achieve mental wellness through connection with nature.
Throughout our township, there is a rapidly growing threat of unchecked development that disregards ecological balance. Without intervention, the forests that provide sanctuary to numerous species and serve as lungs to our local environment are at risk of being diminished. Numerous studies indicate that protected lands support cleaner air, healthier wildlife populations, and a reduction in urban heat, all of which are crucial to combat climate change.
