Support the continued existence and practice of rodeo events in New Zealand.

Support the continued existence and practice of rodeo events in New Zealand.
The issue
Rodeo has been an integral part of New Zealand’s rural tapestry for over a century, serving as both a beloved pastime and a cherished rural tradition. Unfortunately, rodeo is often misrepresented by certain groups, and some media choose to highlight activists’ views rather than acknowledge the overwhelming popularity, community support, and cultural significance that rodeo holds on both a national and international scale.
New Zealand rodeo is arguably the most scrutinised animal activity in the country. Rodeo follows a strict rulebook and code of welfare which ensures the welfare of animals is at the forefront of our sport. It is the animal rights activists' goal to get the government to impose rules on rodeo that would in effect ban the events and make rodeos a thing of the past here in New Zealand.
Rodeo has been in New Zealand in one shape or form since cattle and horses first came to these shores and only became known as rodeos when returning WWII vets started calling them rodeos. Over the years the events have evolved and along with it the rules that promote animal welfare. This year the Government is creating a new rodeo code of welfare. The outcome of this new code will rely on public input. Your support is essential to ensure rodeos continue to exist.
Rodeo events are more than just entertainment; they celebrate New Zealand and its rural heritage and provide a vital economic boost to rural communities through tourism and local events by drawing thousands of visitors each year. Rodeos foster community spirit and are often family-friendly occasions that showcase the skill, dedication, and hard work of those involved. The rodeo community deeply respects animals and is committed to their welfare, strictly adhering to regulations that ensure their safety and wellbeing. With strict guidelines already in place to protect animal welfare, banning rodeo would not only dismantle a treasured cultural tradition but also harm the economic stability of the rural communities that depend on them.
By signing this petition, you not only stand up for our rural and cultural heritage but also support the continued vitality and wellbeing of rural communities that benefit from the rodeo industry.
We urge the New Zealand government and local authorities to recognize the value of rodeo events and to continue allowing these traditional and culturally significant activities to thrive.
Please sign this petition to protect the future of rodeo and the practice of its events.
