Support the Future of Cold Spring Elementary School

Please consider signing the following letter that will be shared with the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Superintendent Dr. Thomas Taylor and members of the Montgomery County Board of Education (BOE) during our community's planned public testimony next Tuesday, October 28th.

We, the families and neighbors of Cold Spring Elementary School, urge the Montgomery County Board of Education to approve the Superintendent’s recommended FY 2027–2032 Capital Improvements Program (CIP) with the Cold Spring capital project included. This plan represents a major milestone for our community and a long-awaited investment that will finally address the challenges our school has faced for decades.

Cold Spring is the only remaining open-concept school in Montgomery County, and we have long raised concerns about its outdated layout, leaking roof, unreliable HVAC system, and ongoing safety, sound, and maintenance issues that impact our children’s daily learning environment. Our children deserve a safe and secure place to learn and grow.

As part of the planned replacement, Cold Spring students will be placed in a holding school for approximately two years while construction is underway. Our community understands that this temporary transition is necessary and remains committed to ensuring continuity in our students’ education. We look forward to working closely with MCPS to make this period as seamless as possible, maintaining the strong academic and social environment that defines Cold Spring, while minimizing any disruptions for students, families, and staff.

We wish to express our deep gratitude and support to Superintendent Dr. Thomas Taylor and his team for recognizing the urgent needs of our school and for prioritizing Cold Spring in his recommendation.

Thank you for listening to our community, for standing with our children, and for helping us build a stronger future for Cold Spring Elementary and Montgomery County Public Schools as a whole.

With gratitude and hope,

The Cold Spring Elementary School Community
