As a father raising my four-year-old son with nonverbal autism, Carter, I am proactively thinking and advocating for safer police interactions for autistic individuals, especially during traffic stops. That's why I am pushing for the Community Autism Response Training and Education Reform Act (CARTER Act), my proposed Pennsylvania law to require all municipal and state police to complete mandatory autism training.

The CARTER Act can mandate 2-4 hours of annual training for Pennsylvania police, covering autism awareness, de-escalation techniques, and traffic stop protocols. Building on Act 59's training framework, this bill will protect individuals with autism and strengthen community safety.
