Support The Assin Foundation in Joint Custodianship of The Assin Praso Heritage Site

The Issue

As a former neolithic archaeologist and historian deeply invested in ancestral heritage and arts, my fascination with Assin Praso, a significant part of Ghana, led me to immerse myself into its history and its ties with the Assin diaspora. While exploring and working in this district, I came across the vast pollution of its lands and waterways caused by illegal mining. In response to the urgent need for remediation, the locally constituted Assin Foundation (reg No CG038882020) which I founded after many communities meetings since 2016, seeks joint custodianship and management of the defined Assin Praso Heritages Site, comprising approximately 100 acres marked in boundary.

The Assin Foundation (FACEBOOK) is devoted to preserving the heritage, habitat and facilities of Assin Praso. By granting them full authority to manage, protect, and promote this site, we can ensure the preservation of our heritage for future generations. Not only will this enrich the site's appeal and attract wider visitors, but it will also contribute to the community’s betterment by driving economic development and promoting cultural tourism.

The Assin Praso Heritages site holds an essential place in the history of Ghana and a significant historical value not only to Ghana but also to the world. The Assin district is known to be deeply linked to the Assin diaspora, which further highlights the urgency of preserving its rich historical and cultural heritage.

Entrusting The Assin Foundation with the management and promotion of Assin Praso Heritage Sites ensures these archaeological wonders are kept intact, while also enhancing their appeal and attractiveness to a wider audience and offering greater opportunities for this part of Ghana.

This Petition positive response would benefit not just the heritage site but also the local community that thrives due to the cultural attraction. Assin Praso holds an essential place in the history of Ghana, being a significant stop on the slave route. It is imperative that we recognize and pay homage to our tragic past by conservatively preserving these sites (source: Ghana Museum and Monuments Board). So let's make the choice today that echoes into future generations. Join me in advocating for The Assin Foundation to receive joint custody and management of the Assin Praso Heritage Sites.
