Support Striking Iranian Nurses: Demand Better Working Conditions and Proper Pay
The Issue
Nurses and other healthcare professionals form the cornerstone of any health system. In Iran, they confront challenges beyond illness. They have organized strikes across various cities in Iran, facing the threat of arrest and harassment simply for expressing their discontent with inadequate working conditions and lack of payment.
These individuals are the ones we rely on to look after us in our most vulnerable moments. However, the unpopular regime in Iran, at the peak of its weakness and fearing another widespread protest, has opted to concentrate on silencing their voices instead of tackling their challenges..
The Iranian authorities have intensified their crackdown on the countrywide protests by nurses, leading to numerous arrests and the hospitalization of one nurse in a coma following her arrest.
Firoozeh Mojrian-Shargh, a nurse at Qaem Hospital in Mashhad, was among the individuals detained. She was taken into custody by security forces on Tuesday night. Following her arrest, Mojrian-Shargh slipped into a coma, which has led to grave concerns regarding her treatment while detained.
The Iranian economy has deteriorated into a system rife with corruption and nepotism, resulting in insufficient resources to properly compensate and support those at the forefront of healthcare. Nurses, who are vital to any society, bear the weight of this decline. They merit more; they are entitled to a work environment that respects their rights and offers remuneration commensurate with their indispensable contributions.
To preserve the integrity of Iran's healthcare system, we must be prepared to advocate for the labor rights of nurses.
Please stand with other freedom-supporting Iranians to back the striking nurses and prioritize the welfare of our respected nurses above the suppression of their rights. By signing this petition, you can demonstrate to our nurses that we see their struggles and hear their voices. It's time to support our nurses. They have always been there for us; now let's be there for them. Add your signature to the petition today.
We also encourage all Iranian human rights activists and groups who cherish freedom to do the same and gather signatures in support of the striking nurses in Iran
The contents of this petition, together with the number of signatures, will be forwarded to the head of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of Human Rights in Iran.
