This is the official petition to implement Stop, Drop, Go Green for the municipality of Brampton, Ontario.  

We are RenewableEnergyPromotion Inc., an organization that aims to stop climate change. The carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere that we emit each day are adding up to the temperature of the world, which is causing global problems. How do we stop this? Simple: we encourage renewable and clean energy to all. We have formulated a plan for municipalities called SDGG: Stop, Drop, GoGreen. It will target regular, everyday citizens and will encourage them to switch to cleaner energy sources, with the reward of tax incentives! Here's how it works:

First off, each couple of months, a limit for the amount of emissions a ward, or neighbourhood is allowed to emit would be made. Gradually over time, this limit will decrease in order for expectations to grow higher.

At the end of each time period, so before a new limit is set, each house, building, and business would calculate their carbon footprint. This can easily be done by looking at the amount of fuels used and converting that to CO2 emissions.

Then, each ward would compile a total carbon footprint. The government would then compare this to the limit, and a few things can happen.

If a ward did good at limiting emissions, which means that the carbon footprint is below the limit, then all citizens in that ward would have lowered taxes.

If a ward did okay, which means that their footprint was near the limit, then nothing would happen. However, they would be encouraged to innovate more so that they could get lowered taxes in the future.

If a ward didn’t do so well, which means that the footprint went over the limit, then everyone in that ward would have their taxes raised. However, loans would be given to help them switch to cleaner and greener energy in order for them to improve in the future.

This system would keep citizens constantly thinking of ways to limit CO2 emissions, such as doing simple actions like using energy efficient light bulbs and walking as much as possible instead of driving. This way, citizens can limit emissions while lowering their taxes. And if they don’t do this, then there would be consequences.

However, you might ask why these rewards and consequences would be distributed in wards, instead of individuals. This would make them work together to lower emissions, and will cause them to encourage their fellow community members to join in. After all, we rise together as a ship, but we sink together as well.

The truth is, we have ignored our crisis too long. If we don't act now, global warming will cause our extinction. Our future generations are at risk, and may never know the world that we know of today. So are you willing to stand by and watch as our beautiful Earth falls because of our actions? Or will you help and make the final stand against climate change? You decide - Stop, Drop, Go Green may be our last rallying point in our desperate fight.
