-WHO: South Ogden residents want to improve self-sufficiency. The homesteading movement is gaining strength, enabling homeowners to grow and eat their own produce. Backyard birds, such as chickens, quail, ducks, and geese, are an excellent source of eggs and meat.

-WHY: 

• Rising food costs are leading to residents eating less-nutritious foods. Backyard fowl. A 2010 Cambridge University study demonstrated that pasture-raised eggs, from chickens given space to peck for food, are more nutritious than industry-sourced eggs, with pasture-raised eggs containing twice as much vitamin E and long-chain omega-3 fatty acids.
• South Ogden is the only municipality in the area that does not allow backyard birds.
• Female varieties of backyard birds match the volume of human conversation (Source​, source). Dogs, lawnmowers, vacuums, and traffic are louder on average.
• Residents support them!

-WHEN: The best time to act is now. With proper education in bird keeping, South Ogden residents can improve their self-sufficiency. In addition, an amendment to this resolution will attract new residents to our area.
