The Issue

Problem: Seattle is one of today’s worst traffic congestions in America, revolving around the use of I-5, I-90, and the 520 bridge. Our metro area is having a series of light link rail destinations as a solution for both the traffic and the environment. The real problem is that Sound Transit has twelve light rail extensions planned into 2041, which is over twenty years away from 2019.

Future Extensions: Opening Year

  • Northgate: 2021
  • Tacoma: 2022
  • East (Mercer Island/Bellevue/Redmond): 2023
  • Downtown Redmond: 2024
  • Lynnwood: 2024
  • Federal Way: 2024
  • Tacoma Dome: 2030
  • West Seattle: 2030
  • Ballard: 2035
  • Everett: 2036
  • Tacoma Community College: 2039
  • South Kirkland/Issaquah: 2041

Do we want to wait for two decades to open all of these future stations? Our answer is no; twenty years of waiting is way too long. We've been no stranger to going through a series of delays of when it comes to fulfilling the gaps to solve our issues that we are facing today.

Solution: Regardless of the planned light rail extensions, we need to have Sound Transit build these tracks sooner. So, our goal is to reduce traffic congestions in the nearest future by using these critical factors within the 2020 decade.

  1. Find More Money: Start a massive investment or funding, besides spending billions from taxes, fares, grants, & loans.
  2. Reduce Planning Time: Complete environmental impact statements, and then design and contract within twelve to eighteen months.
  3. Buy Land Sooner: Secure the property to increase transit leaders sense of urgency.
  4. Unite Early: Solve alignment puzzles faster with local governments.

If we don’t achieve our goal soon enough, the traffic congestions will grow worse as the population of the Seattle metro area will continue to increase. More importantly, the carbon emissions that pollute clean air will keep rising until the future extensions are complete.

Benefits: The solution to using these factors will benefit millions of the Seattle metro area residents, who couldn’t be able to deal with spending hours on the road. More specifically, It also includes the suburban cities who live in Mercer Island, Bellevue, Redmond, Federal Way, Tacoma, Everett, Kirkland, and Issaquah.

The sooner these extensions built, the better the traffic will get in regards to within the greater Seattle area. Please sign, share, and promote for the better cause of reducing traffic congestions and the clean air environment.
